有史料記載的是，曲陽雕刻藝術(shù)迄今已有2000多年的歷史。自西漢始，曲陽石工即用大理石雕刻碑碣等物，曲陽縣城南有座"狗塔"，據(jù)說是東漢光武帝劉秀，為紀念一只曾保護他逃出大火的義犬而征召當?shù)厥承藿ǖ?。北魏時曲陽石雕中的佛像、石獅已獨具風格。
According to historical records, the art of carving in Quyang has a history of over 2000 years. Since the Western Han Dynasty, stone workers in Quyang have been using marble to carve stone tablets and other objects. There is a "Dog Pagoda" in the south of Quyang County, which is said to have been built by Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, to commemorate a stray dog that once protected him from a fire. Local stone workers were recruited to build it. During the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Buddha statues and stone lions in Quyang stone carvings had a unique style.

曲陽石雕唐時曲陽成為中國北方漢白玉雕像的發(fā)源地及雕造中心。至元代，曲陽石雕已享有盛名，涌現(xiàn)出楊瓊、王道、王浩等一批杰出的民間雕刻藝人。元世祖忽必烈興建大都(北京)，召集各地能工巧匠。曲陽石雕藝人楊瓊因雕技精湛，被任命為總管。據(jù)記載，天安門前的金水橋，就是由楊瓊設(shè)計監(jiān)造的。
Quyang Stone Carving In the Tang Dynasty, Quyang became the birthplace and carving center of White Marble sculptures in northern China. By the Yuan Dynasty, Quyang stone carving had gained a great reputation, and a group of outstanding folk carving artists such as Yang Qiong, Wang Dao, and Wang Hao emerged. Emperor Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty built Dadu (Beijing) and gathered skilled craftsmen from various regions. Yang Qiong, a stone carving artist from Quyang, was appointed as the general manager due to her exquisite carving skills. According to records, the Jinshui Bridge in front of Tiananmen Square was designed and supervised by Yang Qiong.
明清時期，曲陽石雕工藝更加精巧，清末曲陽人雕刻的《仙鶴》、《干枝梅》等作品在巴拿馬國際藝術(shù)博覽會上榮獲第二名，以致"天下咸稱曲陽石雕"。
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the craftsmanship of Quyang stone carving became more exquisite. In the late Qing dynasty, works such as "The Crane" and "The Plum Blossom" carved by Quyang people won second place at the Panama International Art Expo, earning them the nickname "Quyang stone carving" worldwide.
中華人民共和國成立后，黨中央派慰問團到革命老區(qū)慰問，曲陽石雕藝人把他們精心雕制的各種石雕，贈送給慰問團。
After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a condolence group to the revolutionary old areas to offer condolences. Quyang stone carving artists presented various carefully crafted stone carvings to the condolence group.
